Moultonborough NH Real Estate

Moultonborough, New Hampshire was chartered in 1763 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth. Its first settlers (at least 16 by the name of Moulton, and amongst them Colonel Jonathan Moulton, who was one of the richest men in the province during the American Revolution), were grantees from Hampton, giving the town its name. Moultonborough became incorporated in 1777.

Moultonborough has a total area of 74.6 square miles, of which 59.8 sq mi is land and 14.8 sq mi is water, which is 19.77% of the town. A large portion of Moultonborough is located along Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire’s largest lake. Extending from the southern corner to the center of the town is Moultonborough Bay, an 8-mile-long arm of the lake. Moultonborough Neck forms a peninsula between Center Harbor and Moultonborough Bay to the southwest. A bridge connects Long Island, Lake Winnipesaukee’s largest island, is connected to Moultonborough Neck.

Suissevale and  Balmoral, waterfront communities, occupy part of the northeast shore of Moultonborough Bay. Further inland is Lake Kanasatka, located in the west part of Moultonborough. Red Hill, elevation 2,029 feet above sea level, is in the northwest. In Moultonborough is Mount Shaw, the highest point in the town, with an elevation 2,990 feet. It is part of the breath-taking Ossipee Mountain Range. Moultonborough’s center of town is located 1 mile north of the head of Moultonborough Bay. Adjoining towns of Moultonborough are Meredith, Center Harbor, Center Sandwich, Ossipee, and Tuftonboro.

Bordered by Lake Winnipesaukee real estate, Squam Lake, and the Ossipee Mountains, which is home to the scenic ‘Luck Now’  Castle in the Clouds, the locally famous stone mansion  built in 1913 as a summer estate.  Its gorgeous views of  Lake Winnipesaukee continue to attract visitors from all over the world.
