Tuftonboro NH Real Estate

Tuftonboro has a total area of 50.1 square miles, of which 41.1 sq miles is land and 8.9 sq miles is water, comprising 17.85% of the town. Tuftonboro is drained by the Melvin River and Beech River. Dan Hole Pond is situated at the north of the town and Mirror Lake is situated at the south. Tuftonboro’s highest peak is Mount Shaw, with an elevation of 2,930 feet above sea level at its northwest boundary.

Melvin Village and Mirror Lake are villages of Tuftonboro. Both being a popular vacation spot. Of the 274 islands on Lake Winnipesaukee, Tuftonboro claims 27.

In 1750 the town was granted as Tuftonborough by Governor Benning Wentworth,and was first settled about 1780. It was incorporated in 1795. By 1859, when the population was 1,305, the principal occupation was raising sheep and cattle across its hilly terrain. Other industries included two sawmills, one sash, blind and door factory, one carriage factory and two gristmills. Today Tuftonboro is still primarily a farming community. 

The Tuftonboro Free Library on Route 109A offers something for everyone with monthly Book and Author Luncheons, Art Shows, a weekly story hour for pre-school children, a Summer Reading Program, as well as a vast assortment of books, DVDs, audio books, and more. The Tuftonboro Central School is part of the Governor Wentworth Regional School District and serves children grades k-6.
