Rye, a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, was first settled by a group of fishermen in 1623. A parish was established in 1726 and the town was incorporated in 1785. The town seal shows the years 1623, 1726 and 1785 as each year is important to the history of the town. The town is located on the Atlantic Coast and contains islands that are part of the Isles of Shoals. What was once a haven for pirate treasure, an old world fishing industry and Victorian era resorts is now primarily a small residential community.
