Top Reasons to Move to the Lakes Region

Kayaking in the Lakes RegionThe Lakes Region of New Hampshire is a wonderful place to live, learn and grow. There are mountain adventures for the young and old, musical and theatrical performances, excellent schools, and over 270 lakes and ponds to enjoy every season of the year. Maxfield Real Estate has a very successful history of bringing people and homes together in the Lakes Region. Here are some of the top reasons to move to the Lakes Region.

Safety & Quality of Life: New Hampshire ranked #1 in crime and corrections, #2 in natural environment, #3 in opportunity, and #4 for overall quality of life by U.S. News & World Report in 2021. This is a great place to live!

Water Recreation: The Lakes Region provides wonderful water recreational opportunities to residents and visitors all year long. There are over 270 lakes and ponds in the Lakes Region to explore! Swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing are enjoyed in warmer weather. Iceboat sailing, ice-fishing, and pond hockey take center stage when the ponds freeze in the winter. The winter fun begins when the ice is safe.

Mountaintop Recreation: Lake Winnipesaukee lies just below the White Mountain range. The range is one of the most rugged in the state providing spectacular views and outdoor challenges to hikers, climbers, skiers, and snowboarders. The Lakes Region also includes the Belknap Mountains and the Ossipee Mountains. There are a lot of excellent ski areas in New Hampshire. Locals enjoy wintertime skiing and riding at Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford and Wolfeboro Abenaki Ski Area (a smaller community run ski area with 7 trails, a tow rope, and $8 lift tickets). The White Mountains include Wildcat Mountain, Attitash, Bretton Woods, and Cannon Mountain. Mountain bikers and rock climbers enjoy a wide variety of terrain and challenges while hikers and bird watchers enjoy the mountain landscape at a more relaxed pace after the snow melts.

Schools: New Hampshire is a top state for K-12 education. Parents can choose from public schools, private schools, charter schools, and homeschooling. The Lakes Region includes Brewster Academy, a boarding school for students ages 9-12 established in 1820. St. Paul’s School is a short 22 mile drive south of the Lakes Region in Concord, NH. The boarding school was established in 1856. St. Paul’s alumni include a number of Pulitzer Prize winners, US ambassadors, US congressmen, and US senators.

Art & Culture: New Hampshire has been the inspiration for many artists, musicians, actors, and writers for hundreds of years. Art & culture is alive and well in New Hampshire. It is celebrated through festivals, galleries, museums, and stage performances large and small. The Lakes Region has a wide variety of musical venues including The Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center, several opera houses, and the Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra. The Winnipesaukee Playhouse has been entertaining audiences with summer stock and community theater since 2004.
