You will always be close to the inspiring waters of the lakes and the breathtaking mountain scenery when choosing to live in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. There are dozens of lakes, both large and small, in addition to Lake Winnipesaukee. There is an abundance of quaint and tranquil towns bordering the lakes. Some towns are a little closer to the bustling activities of downtown districts: but even this elevated level of activity has its charm (especially when compared to the commotion of larger cities). And there are many towns where privacy, peace, and solitude are well kept every day. It will be our honor and privilege to help you find the perfect town when you choose to partner with the Maxfield Real Estate team. Here are some of the best places to live in the Lakes Region.
Laconia: You will be in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the Lakes Region when you find the perfect home in Laconia, NH. Laconia is a summer destination for travelers near and far. The oldest motorcycle rally in the world debuted here in 1916. It is alive and well. The annual nine day event attracts hundreds of thousands of riders every June. It is a great event for local businesses and builds new friendships for residents and visitors every year. Laconia is also home to Weirs Beach, which is complete with a boardwalk and arcades and also hosts firework displays throughout the summer.
Meredith: Just north of Laconia is the marvelous New England town of Meredith. Serving as a resort town it is home to just over 6,500 year-round residents. The residents hold the arts in high regard. There are two performing arts theaters supporting the efforts of local and professional thespians alike. The Interlakes Summer Theatre is celebrating 15 years of Broadway in the Lakes Region in 2022 and The Winnipesaukee Playhouse relocated to the town in 2013 (from neighboring Weirs Beach).
Moultonborough: This town of just over 4,900 residents is bordered by Lake Winnipesaukee to the southwest and Squam Lake in the northwest. The town offers privacy, peace, and solitude for its discerning residents. Some of those discerning residents include loons who have found shelter from their daily concerns at the Markus Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary includes 200 acres of land and 5,000 feet of shoreline on Lake Winnipesaukee. You may hear an occasional “cooing” when a pair of loons are courting or nesting with chicks as you drift off to sleep in your idyllic Moultonborough home.
Gilford: Wintertime is the right time in Gilford, NH. You will be moments away from the perfect day of riding and skiing at Gunstock Mountain Resort and the delightful sounds of summertime music at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. Gilford has a population of just over 7,600 residents and is considered a very good place to raise a family. It scored in the top three 2022 best places to retire in New Hampshire (according to Niche).
